Illuminate will bring their career of over three decades to a close this year. This won’t happen without a hitch: You can look forward to a final tour and a last double album.

The final Illuminate album will be titled “Am Ende aller Tage” and is set to be released on October 27. It is a double album and marks the band’s 20th work – “Zorn” from 2019 being their previous release. Additionally, the band has announced five farewell concerts, one in Mexico and four in German-speaking countries.

Founded in Karlsruhe in 1993 by Johannes Berthold, Illuminate’s early albums are often associated with Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (literally, New German Death Art), especially their 1996 album “Verfall.” Their music incorporates fewer rock elements and features much catchier tunes than the more typical Gothic and Darkwave bands.

The band announced the end on their Facebook page.

They also posted a teaser of the title track played by Jörn Langenfeld.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
