Genre/Influences: Cinematographic, Dark-Ambient.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Italian female artist Martina Betti strikes back with the second opus of her sonic brainchild Shedir. The album was released three years after “Falling Time” (2017).

Content: The new work sounds in the continuation of the previous album; a dark and evasive voyage! The numerous field recordings together with the dark sound treatments create an abyssal feeling. The album features 8 songs, which are progressively built up creating an illusion of mystery.

+ + + : I’m still convinced Shedir has something apart from the ‘classical’ artists in this music genre. It’s a dark trip throughout imaginary fields, but which also has something deeply relaxing. The abyssal sensation perfectly symbolizes the contrast between reverie and angst. It’s a kind of sonic apnea, which just as for “Falling Time” has been masterly illustrated by the front cover of the album.

– – – : Compared to the debut album I can’t say that there’s an important evolution in sound and production. Some passages could be a little bit more elaborated and varied.

Conclusion: Darkness can be relaxing and that’s precisely what Shedir demonstrates at “Finite Infinity”.

Best songs: “Before The Last Light Is Blown”, “A Cosmic Game”.

Rate: (7).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
