Genre/Influences: Industrial, industrial-metal, industial-punk.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Von Mollenstein is a duo from The Netherlands set up in 2019 by ‘Dunkelwalt Immerkalt’ and ‘Mr. Cooger’. They wanted to do ‘something different’ and this debut album must give us an idea about their challenge.

Content: The work features 8 songs, mixing metal riffs with explicit electronic sequences. The debut songs are pretty furious, like sonic anarchy. Some passages remind me of KMFDM, but globally speaking this sound is more chaotic and I even dare to say without real control. The vocals are rough, like expressing rage and anger. I noticed a few ‘softer’ parts, but most of the songs are merciless, sometimes accomplished with orchestral like arrangements.

+ + + : They clearly have a very own approach in music; it’s the kind of work that might appeal to industrial lovers. I especially like the tracks with more explicit electronic parts like “No Means For Love”, “Party Downstairs” and especially “Run Little Rabbith”. But the global approach of the band is definitely interesting and I’m sure this is the kind of weird formation that will catch the attention of a wider audience. They’ve the look, but still a sound approach making the difference with copyists.

– – – : I think the production of the vocals can be better and a little less more diversity in the sound formula could be a bonus. I’d some difficulties with the artwork, as it’s nearly impossible to read the title of the album and the tracklist. Pure punk!

Conclusion: Von Mollenstein sounds as a smack in your face!

Best songs: “Run Little Rabbith”, “No Means For Love”, “Party Downstairs”.
