Pavor Nocturnus – Ecatombe (Album – Cyclic Law)
Genre/Influences: Dark-Ambient, Industrial, Cinematic.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: “Ecatombe” is the fourth album by Italian solo-project Pavor Nocturnus. It also is the first album of the project released by Cyclic Law.
Content: The album features 6 cuts which have been meticulously built up by dark, freaky, sequences, haunting atmospheres and slow drum patterns. The work evolves into apocalyptic passages while other parts are empowered by Industrial elements. I also noticed a few parts featuring fragmented vocal effects.
+ + + : Pavor Nocturnus can’t be considered as a stereo-typical project. There’re obviously influences of Industrial, Cinematic and Dark-Ambient music but it has been mixed together in a visionary way. It creates a refreshing sensation while the rhythmic and drones make the production more accessible. The work reveals great songs but the last one -which is the title track, is a genius piece of modern Industrial-Ambient.
– – – : I regret the work only features 6 cuts. “Abisso” is the single piece which sounds less inspired and far below the high qualitative level of the other tracks.
Conclusion: Pavor Nocturnus is a strong addition to Cyclic Law’s impressive roster.
Best songs: “Ecatombe”, “Maleficio”, “La Mattanza”.
