Remanence – Sepiadrone (Album – Resonant Effects)
Genre/Influences: Experimental, Cinematic, Dark-Ambient.
Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Remanence is a collaborative project between American artists Brian McWilliams (Aperus ao) and John Phipps. They both are also active under the Arcana moniker. “Sepiadrone” is the first new Remanence production in years.
Content: The album brings different influences together which in the end create a minimal Ambient experience. Drones, field recordings, low, dark, sound vibrations and other glasshouse like sonic effects are leading the listener into a strange universe. It feels like a sonic journey now and then achieved with delicate arrangements.
+ + + : I like the somewhat inhibited and intimate sphere created by Remanence. It has something fragile and yet ominous. The work has a visual appeal which is accentuated by the multiple noises, field recordings and effects.
– – – : The production has something predictable which makes it a bit monotonous after a while.
Conclusion: A minimal approach in Dark-Ambient music.
Best songs: “Sepiadrone”, “Metal Clouds”.
Rate: 6.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
