Out now is the newest, 2nd, album The album by the industrial synth crust act Schkeuditzer Kreuz: “No Life Left”. The album is released through Bad Habit Records in Australia and distributed in the US through Sorry State Records.

Behind the project which describes itself as a “one human and some machines, making noise in the face of it all” we find expat New Zealand punk veteran, Kieren Hills, now based in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The new album features the singles “Joy” and “Second Life” and is out on vinyl, cassette, and digital download formats. The release will go hand in hand with extensive touring, including a 30-date tour of Europe and the UK. “No Life Left” follows the project’s 2021’s debut “Isolated and Alone”.

Kieren explains us how the creation of “No Life Left” has differed from the previous LP: “I have learned a lot about recording since ‘Isolated and Alone’ – what can be done with sound, and how to make what I hear in my head come through to other people’s ears. It’s all still just me – playing a few different machines and bashing on random pieces of metal – but I have learned how to refine it and make it bigger and, to me, better.” And he continues: “The writing itself hasn’t changed much – I get ideas at any time of the day or night and just work at them until they are done. I don’t go in with a specific goal in mind, I work until the song is done, and then sit back and wonder where it came from.”

About Schkeuditzer Kreuz

Kieren began his journey into underground music in New Zealand during the 1980s, before relocating to Australia with riotous Wellington NZ punk rock group S.M.U.T. in 1993. He is perhaps best known today as longtime bassist with Sydney hardcore band Dark Horse, but over the years has played in countless underground bands, including Stuttgart, Germany’s Murder Disco X, and occasional Australian deathrock/gothic punk outfit Death Church. That was followed by a huge dosis of noisy industrial and experimental post-industrial music which led to the creation of Schkeuditzer Kreuz.

The first Schkeuditzer Kreuz record was a five-song 12” EP called “Give Me Nothing”, launched with a 15-date tour through Eastern Australia in March 2021, and which produced the video-singles “Give Me Nothing” and “Amerika”. A second record, a 7”, was released on the Inner City Uprising label, titled “D-Beat Raw Synth Punk”. The third Schkeuditzer Kreuz record was a split EP with Sydney act Low Life – both covering Discharge. “State Violence State Control” was released by Winter Garden Records to coincide with an art exhibition with the same theme.

The fourth Schkeuditzer Kreuz record was the debut full-length LP “Isolated and Alone” released in December 2021 through Bad Habit Records.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
