Genre/Influences: Techno-Body, Industrial-Rave, Dark-Electro.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: One year after the “Techno Body Device”-album Jens Minor strikes back with the ninth album of Chainreactor. The work has been announced as partly moving back to the roots of the project.

Content: I already experienced “Techno Body Device” as going back to the early days of Chainreactor. It’s not that different for “Venom” which brings hard, bouncing, Techno-Body-Industrial-Rave music. The rhythm is always danceable while Trance-leads are leading you into a hypnotic experience. Vocals have been again replaced by multiple, spoken, samplings. The second- but especially last part of the work sounds heavy and merciless.

+ + + : Chainreactor has released great productions and has evolved in sound and production to get progressively back to the essence of the project. This work brings different influences together but remains characterized by darkness, danceability and trance passages. The debut part sounds cool but especially the last part of the work reveals heavier, pumping, cuts.

– – – : Nevertheless I like the first half of the work I however miss some extra power and boosting kicks there.

Conclusion: This is dancefloor music for future Industrial generations.

Best songs: “Exorcism”, “His Judgement”, “Open Eyes”, “Keep Moving”, “Das Verderben”, “FCKN Hell”.

Rate: 8½.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
