Genre/Influences: Cinematographic, Experimental.

Format: Digital, Vinyl.

Background/Info: Voices Of The Cosmos is a Polish sound project set up by Rafał Iwański (X-Navi:Et) and Wojciech Zięba (Electric Uranus). They’ve been joined by astronomer Sebastian Soberski. X-Navi:Et and Electric Uranus have already released several albums together and also have this other common project. They’re using ‘the original extraterrestrial signals and sounds (pulsars, magnetospheres of planets, Sun, aurora borealis, masers) captured with radio telescopes and other radio devices’. This album features four tracks.

Content: The album is comparable to the album “Voices Of The Cosmos III” released by X-Navi:Et & Electric Uranus. You again feel embarked on an imaginary sonic travel throughout space. The songs have been progressively built up. It all happens very slowly, but astral sound effects and icy tones are joining in. The music is somewhere in between reverie and a chilling experience. Especially the last track featuring droning effects in the background is a dark experience.

+ + + : I once again got the feeling we’re listening to the experiment of sonic scientists instead of real musicians. The composition is however meticulously built up and revealing a strong visual appeal. This is an album, which needs to get a visual support to come into its own. I recommend listening to “Maser Emission”, and especially the final track “Methanol Flash” is a great listening for its more explicit icy approach.

– – – : The work is missing a true apotheosis, but remains a pleasant listening.

Conclusion: Men and musicians have been always fascinated by space and astral themes like illustrated by Voices Of The Cosmos.

Best songs: “Methanol Flash”, “Maser Emission”.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
