Genre/Influences: Electro-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.

Background/Info: Comando Suzie is a Spanish formation set up in 2006 and driven by Raúl López and Eva Grace. They already released several productions on very different labels and are now back on track with their latest opus “Corazón O Plomo” (translated “Heart Or Lead”).

Content: The sound of this work is clearly driven by a rather sweet and slow Electro-Pop formula featuring Spanish vocals. Most of the songs are sung by Raúl López and are produced in a rather half spoken, half sung way. Eva Grace injected a sensual- and graceful touch to the work. I also noticed a few words in French. Some parts of the album are accentuated by a melodic side and an emotional sphere.

+ + + : Comando Suzie clearly try to compose a very own sound; something you can’t compare to established bands and or Electro-Pop standards. The Spanish vocals reinforce this feeling. I especially like the retro elements running through the album while the female vocals have something magic compared to the male ones.

– – – : I can’t say the music is not worked out, but the global production remains a bit too linear and flat, which also comes through with the male vocals. A bit more passion would be a true bonus.

Conclusion: The ideas running through this album are cool, but the way it has been accomplished could be better. There’s more inside this album than what comes out.

Best songs: “Huele A Mirra”, “Aldebarán”.

Rate: (6).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
